Nan Heim, who grew up in Washington D.C., worked on Capitol Hill for Congressman John Dellenback. When Dellenback left office, Nan flew 2,000 miles for a job interview in Salem.

Nan explored our Capitol for the first time and loved the building. She took the job as communications and government relations director for the Oregon Department of Education, then headed by State Superintendent Verne Duncan.

Eventually, she launched her own company — Nan Heim/Associates — providing lobbying and management services to clients. Her work required spending many hours in her now beloved Capitol.

Nan was excited to join the Oregon State Capitol Foundation Board in 2017 after retiring. Her first idea was to hold a Capitol alumni reunion for former legislators, staff, reporters and lobbyists.

“We’re truing to find more Capitol alumni to join us for the next reunion.”

We invite those who formerly worked in the building to attend the Foundation’s Capitol alumni reunion events. To learn more, contact staff at 503-363-1859 or alumni@oregoncapitolfoundation.org.

A graduate of Northwestern University, Nan is most proud of awards she received from two of her clients: the Oregon Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Champion Award and the Oregon Resource Association’s award for outstanding advocacy for services benefitting Oregonians with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
