About Colomb
Herb Colomb started his career at the Oregon State Capitol ahead of the 1997 legislative session. After a 28 year career in the U.S. Navy, he joined the Oregon Legislative Administration as the facilities manager and maintained that position until his retirement in 2013.
In the interview, Colomb shares details and impressions about the Oregon State Capitol as well as his duties and responsibilities as facilities manager. These duties included managing the HVAC, electrical, plumbing, printing bills and managing both Janitorial Services and Visitor Services. He elaborates on working with members of the Oregon House of Representatives and Oregon Senate. He provides further details about Capitol projects, including the renovation of the wings, renovation of the hearing rooms and restoration of the Governor’s Ceremonial Office following a fire. Additionally, Colomb contributed to the early work that led to the Capitol Accessibility, Maintenance and Safety (CAMS) Project.
Herb Colomb also discusses working with the Capitol Preservation Advisory Committee in his capacity as facilities manager. Following his retirement from the Capitol, Colomb served as a member of the board of directors of the Oregon State Capitol Foundation. He currently serves as an emeritus member of the Capitol Foundation.
